The Rest of the Resume.
Whether is be our own doing, scholarship influence, or parental pressure, it seems that everything we are suppose to take away from college has been summed up into three letters; GPA. I disagree with this belief. An average GPA does not mean a person is average. An extraordinary GPA does not mean a person is extraordinary.
So, I've realized that students (and parents) have become far too obsessed with this single line of a resume. This is only one line of a page. This is only one accomplishment made in 4+ years.
I was curious about the rest of the resume. What extraordinary things do students do to stand out in their field, major, or to just feel proud of themselves. I found out we have some extraordinary students at OSU and I don't care one bit about their GPA. This is the rest of their resume.
This is Tara. She is an Hotel and Business Management major. Tara works as a bartender at Smokey Pokey as well as an administrative assistant in an office and at a retail store. Tara graduate college in 3 years and plans to use her degree, multitasking skills and excessive amount of energy to open a bar some day.
This is Kerri. Kerri and her two best friends have started an after school program for 300 children in South Africa. South Africa is the most violent country in the world. they chose to poorest quadrant build this school. Kerri is also a student at OSU. She is pre-med and will become a doctor further help her students.
This is Janaki. She is a marketing Junior and a Campus Rep for TOMS shoes. Janaki says she owns over 20 pairs of TOMS, plans to continue working with TOMS and is proud that she has the only job that will point her toward a career with TOMS.
This is Chris Cross. Chris is an amazing musician and hopes to keep music close to him everyday in a music based career. Chris is an amazing musician, plays in a church band at every sunday service and recently obtained an internship at a radio station.
Jacki is a Wiiings Team member for Red Bull. Jacki acts as the face of Red Bull and plans to use her two years of brand knowledge and experience to push herself toward a marketing position with Red Bull.
