Portrait

These photos were taken of a hair stylist at Hideaway Salon in Claremore. I had to work with weird lighting and a lot of windows. I like the first photo because it helps tell the story more since you can see what's going on. I set up the photos to where you could see the chair hair dryers in the background. I also asked her to keep her Redken apron on.

Portrait Assignment.

This is Anthony Tabuena. He is a Finance and Accounting senior who is still living in the dorms. We met through a friend and and it turns out we had a mutual love of the tv show Futurama. I took this in his dorm room where there was little light and it was very cluttered.

I was afraid the clutter of his small room would be too distracting so I chose the plain wall behind him as the background to keep the focus on him and his stuffed Zoidberg character.

I couldn't get a good white balance in the room either, so I tried my hand a using kelvin and tried to dial it in manually. I'm not sure if it was any better than the other white balances but I like that I gave it a shot.

For the portrait I kept as close to his face, again for the clutter, and asked if he was okay showing off his animal. He was cool with it and made this cheesy face the whole time. I like it.

Assignment 6

This is a portrait of coach Josh Holliday I took at a Oklahoma State baseball practice. It was not on assignment and I used the opportunity to practice my sports photography.

I was not in 100% control of the situation, but I was allowed to set up however I wanted on the field, and I found this to be a lot better than a portrait where I have him stand in front of a dugout with a bat. It shows him where you can tell he's the coach but is also participating with the team. To me, it was a more telling portrait.

Assignment 6 - Colton Clason

This is a picture of an ex-coworker who was in a serious bicycling accident last May, which left him needing facial reconstructive surgery. He is currently looking to get back into riding again, and I took a trip with him to Cooper's Bicycle Shop to get a portrait with bicycles in the background. I was happy with the way this picture turned out, but unfortunately the light was hard to work with. My low depth of field softened the line of bicycles leading to him.

Assignment 6-Krull

I decided to venture into the Stillwater community this week. I ended up taking pictures of the Stillwater cheerleading co-captian, senior Madison Rash. I chose to take the picture on the football field because she spent much of her high school career there. I put the bleachers and the school in the background and had her face the sun because, as a senior, she is leaving high school and her cheerleading behind and looking to a bright future.

Portrait Assignment

This past week I went out to Jamestown New Horizons horseback riding for children with disabilities. I snap a bunch of great photos of Darcey Mahan, a riding instructor, as she taught kids the proper way to ride a horse and many other safety precautions to take under certain situations.

Assignment 6: Portrait

Over the weekend, I went to a shooting range.  I hung out there all afternoon meeting many of the shooters.  After helping the participants clean up the shells and clay pigeons at the end of the day, I felt comfortable asking a guy I met, Zach Smith, for some up close photographs in order to get a good portrait picture.  By standing down the barrel of a gun, I definitely felt out of my comfort zone. However,  I made sure that the gun was unloaded, chamber open and on safety before taking these pictures.

Portrait assignment

This is an OSU Student I met at Bennett Hall. He was cooking in the lounge. His personality was goofy and comedic. I thought that is was funny when he turned around and started pointing the knife at me, jokingly.

As he was waiting for his food to cook, he started doing handstands against the wall. He was funny, obnoxious, and his food smelled delicious.

Assignment 6 - Emily Nielsen

I went to see the Vagina Monologues this weekend and showed up early to ask if I could take some portraits of the actors. These are of Beth Fiery, who performed a monologue about pleasure and ends in a demonstration of different types of moaning. Beth was a great subject and I like the "come hither" look she's giving here. The bottom portrait would be my No. 1 choice if it weren't for that pesky person in the background walking through my shot.

Assignment 6 - Portrait

This is Logan Evans, he is a deaf student in the theater program at OSU.  We met on Saturday and we were going to take pictures on the stage at the Serentean Center, but it was locked so we went to the Union.  This is him and his interpreter in the student union. I didn't feel a completely posed image would tell the story, so I got them talking and I felt like it turned out really well.

Mat Hunt Assignment 5

assignment 3- event

Photo of the study groups during the lunch rush at the Student Union. The group at the bottom was trying to study during the lunch rush.

Assignment 5- In the Moment

Dress shopping in Tulsa for my best friends wedding coming up in September. She found the perfect one!

Moment Assignment

In this moment, at my friends apartments her roommate scared one other their roommates when they walked in the door. So she got sat on. I chose this moment to photograph because it was funny as payback can be.

Assignment 5

Assignment 5 - Colton Clason

These actors were preparing in the basement of the Seretean Center to go on stage for their final performance of "Oklahoma Voices." I tried to capture the actors finishing make-up and any mental preparation before they headed upstairs to backstage.

Assignment 5

A group of students work together on a team building exercise: Cushioning an egg with newspaper, string and straws, so that when dropped from 5 feet, it won't crack.

This probably doesn't tell a story, but I like how this photo turned out. It's one of the girls I roomed with at my hotel in Dallas getting ready for a banquet. I just love how concentrated she is and how the light hits her hair and the reflection of the mirror.

Assignment 5 - Emily Nielsen

Tiffany Bias during the OSU women's basketball game against Kansas State on Feb. 16.

Assignment 5 moment--Anneliese Krull

I took this picture at the Bedlam Basketball game. I went to the top section of the arena so that I could capture the sold-out arena. The picture was taken when we won and people had just started to storm the court. I used a wide angel lens zoomed out to add layers and depth to the photo. I like how there are many mini moments in the picture of people celebrating at the buzzer. The court in on a third as well as the man pumping his fist. He was animated during the game, so I knew he would be a good subject for emotion whether OSU won or lost. I set the Fstop and the shutter speed to allow the foreground subjects to not be dark while not completely blowing out the court. Since so many people were there, it is a visual that has not been witnessed in a long time at GIA.

Assignment 5

This photo was taken at the Chili Bike event over the weekend. After the ride, cyclists lined up for chili. I captured this moment because I think it helps tell the story.

Assignment 5: Moment

Teaching a Puppy to
Walk Up the Stairs

This is one of the cutest moments I have witnessed in a while. After about 30 minutes and 100 pictures later, the pup finally made it!  The lighting on the staircase was very dim.  There was some natural light coming in that I had to position correctly in order to have enough lighting without it being distracting.

Moment

This is Chauntel Brown. She was crowned Miss Black OSU 2013 on Saturday, Feb. 16. I tried to just shoot as often as I could to capture the winner as soon as the name was called. This is after she was crowned and walked to display her plaque and tiara.

Assignment 5

I'm a big golf fan, and there are few feelings like getting solid contact on a ball and watching it take off. I wanted to capture that moment and think I got it in this shot. You see the ball and the movement of it and the club. The ground around it is calm, but where the club just came through there is disruption. I decided to photograph from shoulders down because I didn't want the focus to be on the face.

Assignment 4

Today was the start of Phi Delta Theta's "Love for Lou" Philanthropy in honor of famous Phi Lou Gehrig.

Today was puppy day where the house had puppies for people to pay $2 to play with, as well as bid on them in a silent auction.

Mat Hunt Assignment 4

This picture is boring, but the sunlight reflecting of the glossy bricks made for some good lighting.

Cam Assignment 4: Light

The sunset falling on The Reserve on Perkins apartment complex.

A multicolored sunset in Stillwater, Oklahoma.

Assignment 4- light

Cool evening at theta pond as the sun was setting.

Lighting Assignment- Alex Z

I took this picture one day after I got out of school and was doing some homework. I like how the lighting was dimmed even though it was taken at noon. The light was first dimmed by the window and then dimmed passing through the peach colored curtains coming from back right.

Light Assignment

The light source is from the left. It reflects off of the leaves on the tree and it also throws shadows from some limbs of the tree onto other parts of the tree.

Assignment 4 Anneliese Krull

I took this photo at a leadership retreat in the Starlight Terrace of the Student Union. I liked the light because it was multidimensional with full length windows on her left serving to highlight here hair and make it glow and show texture. The light is soft on her face creating enough shadow to provide a 3dimensional appearance. Also, interesting about the room is the fact that there are skylights which directed light in from above. The shallow depth of field allows one to focus on her captured in a moment in time. I enjoy capturing candid shots and emotions, especially through closeups. The fact that those out of focus are attentive to something else emphasizes that something has drawn her focus away. I took this from an angle level with her so that the light would off out of focus people in the background and to avoid the skylights darkening her face or blowing out the exposure.

Assignment 4

Assignment 4

Assignment 4: Light

I spent one evening walking around campus looking for a unique photo opportunity with nice light. I decided to chose this picture because it's a different view of the Student Union from the perspective of Theta pond.  I like that the sun is setting so the selective focus of light is on the actual Union.   The photo is composed nicely with the fountain falling on the left rule of thirds and the sky line of the Union on the upper rule. I also like how the fountain is flowing upward drawing the eye to the sunlight and the Union.

Assignment 4

Shot at 6:40ish pm with the sun behind his head and using a white card to reflect light back at him. I also set the white balance for shade to give a more warm, golden look.

For a few weeks now, I have been talking with a friend who leads the fighter practice meetings for the local Society of Creative Anachronism chapter about shooting a few of their gatherings.

After last week's class on lighting I wanted to come in and shoot a few interesting portraits of the guys in all their gear but this is the only one who showed up with his own custom made equipment. Everyone else was in hockey gear with random metal helmets.
