Land Run to the Future, Downtown Stillwater Endures -- Colton Clason

Stillwater, Oklahoma has been growing since 1884
and much of that growth started on Main Street downtown.
Businesses still thrive on this century-old strip of road.

Aspen Coffee Company, established in 1994, opened its first location
on 7th Street downtown where the patio is still a hot spot for coffee drinkers.
Graffiti and street art can be found through most of the alleyways.

A few courtyards still remain between the old buildings.

Brooklyn’s Restaurant opened in 2011 on the corner of 7th and Main.
It sits in the former location of Katz Department Store,
which opened in 1896 and closed in 2005.

Stillwater Summit Company has been providing outdoor gear
to students and Stillwater residents since 2003.

Local shoppers post pictures of their outdoor adventures
on the wall leading upstairs.

Leonard Jewelry opened its doors to Main Street in 1964
and now sits in Kinzington Court, an indoor courtyard.

Owner Annette Kinzie and her assistant buy jewels for inventory.

Bobby, owner of District Bicycles, talks to Summit Co. employee
about one of the newer bikes.

To display trailer-hitch bike mounts, Bobby has
the back end of an old Ford truck against the wall.

Bobby does many of the repairs himself behind the counter.

Downtown Stillwater has existed for more than a century, stretching back to the founding of the town. Although, back then it was simply called Main Street, the roads were bricked, and horses pulled carriages up and down the road. Businesses and community thrived back then, and they still do today in Stillwater, Oklahoma.
