Final Photo Essay: Musical Enlightenment

It is no secret that from the very moment we plug in our headphones and press play on our favorite song, music makes us come alive.  It enables us to unleash a part of ourselves we may have been witholding for ages.  It relieves us of stress, provides entertainment, and bridges the gap between cultures.  Each and every person is different, but I think we can all agree that music is very much a slice of enlightenment that all of mankind seeks.  From rock 'n roll to hip hop, it has molded the path of humanity and inspired many to do great things.

Through this photo essay, I have attempted to capture twelve different people in their 'musical states of enlightenment.'  This is virtually a euphoric state where we have no distraction or fear of judgment from the outside world.  Simply put, it's just them and the music.

This is Ben, a metal-head who is not afraid to scream until his lungs are sore.

Brian, a laid back Indie Rock guitarist just doing his thing.

Craig, a classical enthusiast who thrives on beautiful orchestration and composition.

Esther, a happy-go-lucky pop devotee, never taking life too seriously.

Ian, a hard rock junkie living wild and free.

Jenna, a connoisseur of the finer things, enjoying some jazzy downtempo beats.

Josh, playing along to some soft rock acoustic jams.

Kari, a carefree and easy going country fanatic.

Lily, an upbeat electronic groupie, not afraid of anything.

Sam, dark and misunderstood, an early punk rock freak.

Tyrel, a good ol fashioned red dirt country boy.

Vincent, a skateboarding ska lover, lacks motivation but overflows with imagination.
