OSU Photojournalism: Music Moves Me.

Music has an amazing effect on human emotions. It evokes an endless amount of emotions ranging from excitement, joy, motivation, and intensity to irritation and frustration. Music is a huge part of everyday life. Whether you're using music to workout, hearing music on the elevator while you wait, listening to music on the way to class, dancing to it at a club, or hearing it on a commercial, music is pervasive.

Portraits have always had a profound effect on me. Before I have began this class, I always loved portraits. Human faces are one the most intriguing and captivating subjects to capture in a photograph. I believe a single picture can capture the very essence of a person. What better way to capture emotion than in a portrait?

This photo essay, "Music Moves Me," is a portrait series celebrating music and the way it moves people. The essay is somewhat experimental in nature. Each person listened to a song they absolutely loved, and then a song that they could not stand. These portraits capture the emotions written on their face as they listened to the music.

The only "staged" part of the essay is the background and the lighting. The songs the people chose were the songs they did/didn't like, the volume of the music was their preference, and the emotions evoked were all their own.
