The Society for Creative Anachronism was created on May 1, 1966. It is an international organization that promotes the study of history from approximately 400 BC to 1500 AD. There are around 60,ooo members in 19 kingdoms throughout the world. Members of the group choose a country and time period that they are interested in and develop personas based on this.
Events are hosted throughout the year around the world. Events focus on the arts and sciences, combat, or a mixture of the two. While some poeople have one area they focus on, there are many who also dabble in both. People will travel across state, country, or even the world to attend these events.
The people who participate in the SCA come from all walks of life. There are newborn babies to people as old as 80. There are students, teachers, bankers, businessmen, doctors, lawyers, firefighters, chemical weapons researchers, publishers, archeologists, IT technicians, food service workers, construction workers, cartographers, and many more. Their daily lives are just as varied as their personas, but their interests are what tie them together.
The group from Stillwater, known as the Province of Mooneschadowe, was formed in 1978. While quite a few in the group can be seen taking classes at OSU, there are also numerous members scattered throughout the town. Members are publishers, bus drivers, IT techs, janitors, construction workers, and pub owners. Below are pictures of some of the members along with activities that occasionally keep them from doing what they love.
